For those wondering about low time pilots flying the Sonex, I received my Sport Pilot Certificate last month. I trained in an Evektor Sportstar LSA and didn't have any problems transitioning to the Sonex. If anything, the Sonex felt smoother -- I've heard others say "it handles like it's on rails" -- now I know what they mean. - Richard Grayson

The first flight went very well with no problems except for the usual pilot adjustments after flying a Cessna 172. I am looking forward to the 40 hr. flight test time. I'm a member of EAA Chapter 2, and my Technical Counselor was Lowell Farrand. Thanks to everyone for all your help on this project.

Bill Wood, 78 years young, of Granbury Tx. saw his tri-gear AeroVee powered Sonex fly for the first time this evening! Kevin Ross did the honors. Kevin is becoming the Sonex test pilot for the region :-) Kevin gave the same glowing report for Bill's plane that he gave for mine. First flight was out of 0TX0 (Nassau Bay). A (wet) 2800' grass strip. The N. Central Texas fleet grows :-) -Wes Ragle N664SX

We, Bill Smith and Mark Edwards started building Sonex N179ES in January 2003 and made the first flight on May 29 2007. We constructed and painted our plans built Sonex in a two car garage. The 80 horsepower Aero Vee 2180 cc engine came to us as a kit from Sonex. It went together well, partly because Mark is a Diesel mechanic and partly because of good support from Sonex. We used a Grand Rapids Engine Information System and Becker radio and transponder. The plane flew very well, with only minor adjustments necessary after the first flight. We attribute this good performance to using the best set of plans that either of us ever saw and following them very carefully. Accurate measuring and cutting makes the difference. To the people at Sonex, John Bakken and the people at ISU Aircraft and EAA Chapter 407 we say THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for all your help and encouragement. Building this plane has been a rewarding experience. Elmer W. Smith, Mark L. Edwards 1541 Emerald Dr. Pocatello Idaho

Wow!!!.no surprises here. N409SX hopped off the ground and flew very nicely! Many thanks to Mr. John Davis from Crossville, TN, my friend, fellow builder (S/N 0523), and technical advisor for the many hours of assistance and encouragment. Also, thanks to a pleasant and helpful team at Sonex headquarters when I had technical questions. Ya'll have been GREAT!
